By the time the end of January rolls around, I get a little antsy for a little getaway (and a desire for some warm sun). I decided to surprise my husband with a quick weekend getaway to Miami for his birthday. Yes, he was surprised and we had a great time!
Day 1: Arrived in Miami, got rental car and headed to the Hyatt Regency Miami to check in (we had a Guest of Hyatt for this reservation so we were able to do an early check in and late check out). Once we were setted we decided to explore a little. The Hyatt Regency is very conveniently located to the city. I did decide to rent a car but you could easily walk and use uber if you choose. There are a lot of choices for food and shopping just steps from the hotel. We ended up eating lunch at a restaurant in the Brickell City Center.
That evening, we decided to go to explore a bit of Little Havannah. We ate at Versailles – a pretty famous restaurant that has been open since 1971. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. (it was a popular spot and had a 45 minute wait on a Saturday night)

Day 2: The next morning, I took a nice long walk along the Miami River Greenway (again, steps from our hotel) then we had a fabulous breakfast at the Hyatt (included with our Guest of Hyatt reservation).

We decided to get away from the city a bit and find a quieter beach so we headed north to Sunny Isles Beach. It was perfect! The water was a little too chilly but it was nice to just relax on the beach. On our way back to Miami we stopped at Haulover Park to watch the boats passing through the inlet.

After Sunny Isle, we decided to explore South Beach. We managed to find parking on the street (this was very difficult), but if you can’t find one near the beach, you can try to find parking further away and catch the free shuttle that runs a loop around South Beach if you want to give your feet a break. South Beach is a fun place to people-watch on the beach, the volleyball courts, or the many shops and restaurants.

Day 3: The weather forecast was rain (all day) so after I digested my delicious breakfast buffet, I decided to walk to the nearest Orange Theory Fitness (there are 2 studios within walking distance from my hotel!) to get in a great workout before heading to the Superblue Miami.

The rain was getting heavy by the time I finished my workout so instead of walking in the rain for a half mile, I noticed the Metromover entrance was right across the street so I took it back towards my hotel. (FREE transportation around Miami downtown area!)
I decided to go to Superblue Miami. It was advertised as a 50,000 square feet of immersive experiences by world -renowned artists. It appeared to be a popular attraction on a rainy day- if you didn’t purchase a reserved time you would have a 30-60 minute wait. It was a unique experience, and I did enjoy it, but with a $30 entrance fee, I felt that it was a little pricey for what it was. There were 4 large spaces: digital flowers that blossom and scatter over the walls and floor, a room with light bulbs that reflects your heartbeats in the rhythm of the light bulbs, and a laser/water display to music and a mirror maze room. I did take my time and spent about one hour total in the experience.
