We filled the next few days with Glaciers, Wildlife, and a Visitor Centers in the Portage Valley. We visited Alyeska Resort, Whittier, and Seward.
Byron Glacier hike & Visitor Center
A super easy and short hike (2.2 mi RT 393 elevation gain) with beautiful views of mountains and Byron creek. The trail ends at snowfields below the Byron Glacier. We also stopped at the Begich Boggs Visitor Center near Portage Glacier. The visitor center was a surprisingly fun stop with more great views, and educational information, including a movie about Chugach National Forest.

Whittier
We took some time to experience the cute town of Whittier. To get to Whittier, we traveled through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel. This tunnel is a 2.5-mile, one-lane combined vehicle and train tunnel. There is a round trip fee to go through the tunnel and if you don’t time it right you may have to wait for the train and/or traffic coming from the other direction. On the other side of the tunnel is the beautiful town of Whittier. We spent a couple hours wandering through the handful of shops and had some fish and chips.

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center & Alyeska Spa
We decided to slow it down a bit today. We slept in, then made our way to the Wildlife Conservation Center where we spent about an hour and half viewing the animals.

After visiting the Wildlife Conservation Center, we decided to splurge on the evening pass to Hydrotherapy at the Alyeska Nordic Spa. The spa was absolutely amazing! It was full of hot and cold pools, saunas, steam rooms, and relaxation rooms with lounging chairs, fire pits and tea. It was a very relaxing evening!

Seward & Full Day Wildlife & Glacier Cruise
We booked a full day Wildlife and Glacier tour through Major Marine Tours. It was an absolute highlight of our trip. On our tour we saw a raft of otters, porpoises, seals, sea lions and humpback whales. We were fortune enough to see the rare sighting of a pod of humpback whales bubble net feeding – it was so amazing!
