Thailand 20 day itinerary – final days

I cannot believe that our Thailand 20 day itinerary is coming to an end. Koh Tao was our final stop on this journey but we needed to make our way back to Bangkok to catch our flight to Tokyo. Because it was rainy season and I really didn’t want to increase our chances of missing a ferry or flight due to weather we paced ourselves getting back to Bangkok.

We arranged our ferry pickup through our hotel on Koh Tao and took the boat back to Koh Samui, where we spent one night at La Perle Resort. This small boutique hotel on the north side of the island was quiet, cute, and set right on the beach with a view of Koh Phangan.

To get back to Bangkok, you can fly directly from Koh Samui, take a ferry to Surat Thani and catch a flight or bus from there, or take a long-distance ferry connection all the way to Bangkok. While flights out of Koh Samui are a bit more expensive, we decided to fly to keep things simple.

We flew from Koh Samui to Bangkok (BKK) and used points for a one-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. The hotel was ideal for our schedule: its flexible check-in and check-out allowed us to stay until 5:00 PM the following day to align with our evening flight. Between relaxing by the pool and enjoying the quick, seamless connection to the airport, it made for a stress-free transition.

Before boarding, we spent our remaining Thai baht on mango smoothies at our favorite local spot hidden in the airport’s basement level—a perfect final taste of Thailand.
